Vijay Kumar Sinha was elected the speaker of the 17th Bihar Legislative Assembly on Wednesday amid ruckus from opposition parties. Sinha, a former minister and MLA from Lakhisarai assembly constituency, is the first BJP legislature in the state to occupy the speaker post.
Nitish Kumar took oath as the chief minister of Bihar for the seventh time on Monday, equalling the record set by former Goa’s chief minister Pratap Singh Rane. This is also the fourth straight term as chief minister of Bihar for Nitish Kumar who will turn 70 on March 1, 2021.

Tejashwi Yadav-led Mahagathbandhan, which includes Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress and the three Left parties — CPM, CPI(ML) and CPI, is projected to win a majority in the 243-member Bihar Legislative Assembly.
