Son of Vegetable Vendor Tops Bihar Board Exam; 80.59% Students Pass

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) declared results for Class 10th board examination on Tuesday. Himanshu Raj, son of a vegetable vendor, topped the exam with 96.2 per cent marks. He scored 481 out of 500 marks. This year the pass percentage stood at 80.59 per cent, which is slightly lower than 80.73 per cent recorded in 2019.

In 2020 matric board exam, 14,94,071 students appeared. It included 7,29,213 boys and 7,64,858 girls. 12,04,030 students passed the exam, while 2,89,692 students failed. Out of those who passed 4,03,392 students stood in the first division; 5,24,217 students secured second division, while 2,75,402 stood at third division. A candidate needs to score at least 30 per cent or 150 marks to pass Bihar 10th board examination.

Himanshu Raj, who topped the exam, is a student of Janata high school, Tenuaj in Rohtas district. Durgesh Kumar, a student of SK High School, Jitwarpur, Samastipur, secured second rank by scoring 96 per cent marks. Durgesh achieved 480 out of the total 500 marks. So the different between the topper and the second topper is of one marks. It is important to highlight here that both the students who secured the first and the second position in the Bihar Board examination are of very humble background. Durgesh father is a farmer.

Topper among the girls is Juli Kumari. Juli secured 478 out of 500 marks. Three candidates secured 478 marks. In percentage term it stands at 95.6 per cent. Other candidates who secured 478 marks are Shubham Kumar and Rajveer. So three candidates were jointly declared third position.

Board examination results have been delayed across the country due to Coronavirus pandemic. The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) is the first one to declare the result for 10 board examination.

“Bihar board became the first board to declare the results of class X and XII in the country as most of the boards have either not completed the examination or could not complete the evaluation of answer sheets because of the lockdown enforced in the country to contain the spread of Coronavirus infection,” said Bihar School Examination Board Chairman Anand Kishore. Bihar Education Minister Krishnandan Prasad Verma declared the results.

If you have appeared for the exam and not checked your results yet, here is the way to do that. Here’s how to check your result:
Step 1: Visit the website of Bihar Board – biharboardonline.bihar.gov.in
Step 2: On the home page, click on ‘Results’
Step 3: Tap on Class X Matriculation results
Step 4: Select your stream and click on ‘Result’
Step 5: You will be directed to a new page where you will have to key-in your credentials
Step 6: Enter the captcha text
Step 7: You can now check and download your BSEB Class 10 Result 2020.
