Nitish Kumar’s son six times richer than his father; Sahani richest minister in Bihar cabinet

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has assets worth Rs 56.5 lakh, while his son Nishant’s owns assets worth Rs 3.62 crore. Most of Nitish Kumar’s cabinet colleagues are also richer than the Chief Minister. First time minister and founder of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) Mukesh Sahani is the richest person in Bihar cabinet with asset worth over Rs 12 crore.

Nitish Kumar and his cabinet colleagues have made public the information about their personal assets. All the ministers in Bihar are required to make their assets public on 31 December every year. Nitish Kumar has enforced this practice since 2010 as an attempt to bring transparency in public life.

Almost all the ministers in Nitish Kumar government are crorepati and owns several acres of land. Transport Minister Sheela Kumari and her husband own over 30 acres of cultivable land.

The most valuable asset owned by Nitish Kumar is a 1000 square feet flat at Sansad Vihar Co-op Group Housing Society Ltd, Dwarka, New Delhi. Kumar bought the flat in 2004 at a cost of Rs.13.78 lakh. The approximate current market value of the flat, as per the affidavit submitted by the chief minister, is Rs.40 lakh.

The value of immovable properties owned by the chief minister’s son is Rs.1.48 crore. Nitish Kumar owns movable properties worth Rs.16.53 lakh. The chief minister has a 2015 model Ford Ecosport Titanium car. The chief minister also owns 12 cows and 6 calf valued at Rs.1.45 lakh. Chief minister son Nishant’s movable assets is worth Rs.1.57 crore. This includes Rs.78.5 lakh in fixed deposit with State Bank of India’s S.K. Puri, Patna branch. He also owns Rs.25.43 lakh in PPF with SBI, Bailey Road, Patna branch.

Nishant, the only son of Nitish Kumar, has inherited most of property from his mother who was a school teacher. Nishant’s property immovable properties include ancestral agricultural, non-agricultural land and residential building at Kalyanbigha and Hakikatpur, Bakhtiyarpur. Kalyanbigha in the Nalanda district is the ancestral village of Nitish Kumar. Nishant also inherited a plot at Kankarbagh, Patna. Nishant is an engineering graduate from BIT Mesra. He is said to have no interest in politics. He is involved in some business.

The richest person in Nitish Kumar’s cabinet is Mukesh Sahani, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister. His asset is worth Rs.12.34 crore. Sahani and his wife owns several properties in Mumbai.
