Bihar’s impressive performance in UPSC: 6 candidates secure place in top 100

The Union Public Service Commission on April 16 released the results for the Civil Services Exam 2023, in which 1,016 candidates have been selected for various central services and Group A and B services. Out the total 1,016 candidates, 32 candidates are from Bihar. Six candidates from Bihar have secured place in top 100.

Shivam Kumar (29), a resident of Bithan in Samastipur district of Bihar has secured 19th rank. Shivam had secured 319th rank last year and got entry into IRS, but he was not satisfied with it. It was his fourth attempt to secure the IAS cadre.

Notably, Shivam’s father Pradip Tebriwal (61) is into pharmacy business and runs a retail medicine shop in Bithan.

Breaking down his strategies for UPSC, Shivam told ANI, “It is a continuous and consistent effort. The process is such that you have to study more and more, and at the end, all factors aligned and I got the results. I am very happy.”

He worked for Mercedes-Benz in Bengaluru for a short while. Shivam wanted to become an IAS officer to benefit society and the country. Even after enrolling in the training program at income tax (IT) in Nagpur, Shivam remained determined to crack the UPSC exam.

Aniket Kumar Dubey from Gopalganj’s Hajiyapur attained the commendable 226th rank. Dr. Prem Prakash, son of farmer Ravindra Kumar Choudhary and Rita Devi, and a resident of Jamuhara in Aurangabad’s Obra block, secured the 130th rank, marking another success story from Bihar.

Adding to the list of achievers, Shahenshah Siddiqui, son of retired teacher Mohd. Rizwanullah from Narkatiaganj, secured the 762nd rank, underscoring Bihar’s diverse talent pool.

Monica Srivastava, a resident of Aurangabad, marked her place in the 455th rank. As per the reports, Monica is the daughter of an engineer Brajesh Srivastava and a principal Bharti Srivastava. Previously, she also secured the 66th rank Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination.

Following her success in the UPSC examination, Monica told Local18 that whatever position and responsibility will be assigned to her by the commission, she will be fulfilling it with all her efforts. Apart from this, she also mentioned that she will always try to give her best in the national and public interest.

On her success, Monica has credited her success to the blessings of her parents, the support of her siblings and all the efficient guidance from her teachers so far. Apart from securing her place in the BPSC and UPSC examinations, Monica is also known to have secured the first position amongst the girls in the entrance examination of IIT. After passing out from Guwahati IIT, Monica has also worked in a high position in a private company in Chennai.

Sanskriti Singh, a resident of Toygarh village in Barbigha block of Sheikhpura district, has got the 366th rank.

Sanskriti has been selected for IRS service. After her success, people from the block, including the village, are visiting her house to congratulate her. Let’s take a look at her success story.
As per reports, Sanskriti has carried forward the tradition of the third generation of her family by achieving success in the Union Public Service Commission examination. Her late grandfather, Bharat Singh, was the first IPS of Sheikhpura district. He passed away last year. She has two siblings, Rakesh Singh and Mukesh Singh, Both of them are also in the civil service.

After Sanskriti has achieved success recently, a wave of happiness is being seen in the village as well as the entire district. She ranked 366th in the UPSC. According to family members, Sanskriti has been good at reading and writing and interested in studies since childhood.

Sanskriti’s father, Rakesh Singh, is working as the Additional Chief Secretary in Karnataka State. Meanwhile, in a media interaction, her maternal uncle, Pappu Singh, shared that Sanskriti got married three years ago. Her husband is also an IRS officer. At present, he is working on the post of Income Tax Commissioner. However, Sanskriti has done her preparation for the UPSC in both Delhi and Karnataka.

Apart from this, a young woman from Kozhikode, Kerala, has defied the challenges of cerebral palsy to achieve a remarkable feat: clearing the civil services exam. Sarika A. K, despite her condition, which limits the use of her right hand, managed to secure a commendable rank of 922 in her second attempt at the UPSC 2023 exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.

Sarika’s journey through the various stages of the civil service exam was full of difficulties. From navigating exam centres to facing the challenges of a week-long main examination, she overcame each obstacle with resilience and managed to earn this success.

UPSC Topper

Aditya Srivastava from Lucknow topped the prestigious civil services examination 2023, with Animesh Pradhan and Donuru Ananya Reddy getting the second and third ranks respectively.

Before becoming a civil servant, Srivastava worked with Goldman Sachs in Bengaluru and earned around ₹2.5 lakhs a month. However, he left it and decided to try his hand at civil services.

Animesh Pradhan, a B.Tech graduate in computer science from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela secured the second rank with sociology as his optional subject.

Donuru Ananya Reddy, who holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Geography from Miranda House, Delhi University, got the third position with anthropology as her optional subject.

The top five candidates comprise three men and two women.

A total of 1,016 candidates (664 men and 352 women) have qualified for the prestigious civil services examination and have been recommended by the UPSC for appointment to various services.
Others in the top 20 include — PK Sidharth Ramkumar (4th rank), Ruhani (5th rank), Srishti Dabas (6th rank), Anmol Rathore (7th rank), Ashish Kumar (8th rank), Nausheen (9th rank), Aishwaryam Prajapati (10th rank) , Kush Motwani (11th rank), Aniket Shandilya (12th rank ), Medha Anand (13th rank), Shaurya Arora (14th rank), Kunal Rastogi (15th rank), Ayan Jain (16th rank), Swati Sharma (17th rank), Wardah Khan (18th rank), Shivam Kumar (19 th rank), and Akash Verma (20th rank).

The Civil Services Exam is conducted every year in three stages — preliminary, main, and interview — by the UPSC to select officers of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.

This year a total of 180 candidates have been selected for the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS), while 200 candidates have been chosen for the Indian Police Service (IPS). Additionally, 37 candidates have been selected for the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), with 613 candidates securing Grade A posts and 113 candidates securing Grade B posts within the Central Government.

Out of the total selected candidates, 347 are in general category, 115 EWS, 303 OBC, 165 SC and 86 ST.
